It’s Day One of a new start and of new challenges.
I was when I shared with my friends that I was going to try a “sugar challenge” that was presented by my spin studio. After one friend forwarded my email to several others, I connected with a high school friend who is completing her first “Whole30”. She offered up information on the program, which was sadly much more informative than the program that I had just spent a $100 signing up to participate in.
That challenge started last Friday. That program, which has no real professional backing is touting that for 12 weeks, one should go without refined sugar or natural sugar; that milk is not allowed but yogurt and hard cheese are; beets, sweet potatoes, and cauliflower are not allowed; and to eat every 2-3 hours. Over the weekend I didn’t fully committee to this as we were in the Poconos with friends.
By Monday, I wasn’t 100% whole30 today, nor 100% sugarfree. We (Rich is trying it too!) had eggs with cheese, lettuce wrapped sandwiches for lunch, and we just made chicken sausage and peppers with kale and side of sweet potato wedge. I think I had a cheese snack in there too.
I’m okay developing my own way and easing into it all but we are going to try harder the rest of this week to say good bye to cheese.
So now on Wednesday we have been learning a lot and trying many new recipes. Rich and I both have been feeling tired and with headaches. But I do feel less bloated than I have in a long time. Although my emotions seem to be up and down, it’s hard to know if that is the change in diet or that is just me.
Finally: I’m so happy that I have not only nice friends saying encouraging things, but I have some great people to talk to and share more recipes through you.
On to the next one,
